UTICA, N.Y. — Pounds and pounds of potatoes and hundreds of turkeys are being transported across the Mohawk Valley today.
The Irish Cultural Center’s board of directors—in collaboration with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Foundation and the Ancient Order of Hibernians—gathered donations and is now preparing to deliver essential items for the Thanksgiving holiday to 13 local food pantries.
The Utica University football team was there to help with loading the deliveries.
“You know,” Pat Costello, board member, said, “people step up. People understand it’s a working-class area.”
Costello said that they secured 5,000 pounds of potatoes and 300 turkeys.
The items will be delivered by the end of this week to the food pantries.
