Civic internships a worthwhile program [Video]

I read with interest “U.W.-Parkside Students Explore Kenosha through Civic Engagement.” [3/7/24] Kudos to the University, City, & County for making this important opportunity available to students.

Internships offer a great opportunity for both young people and non-traditional students to gain knowledge and skills. Equally important is that they offer a chance for those in the workplace to observe the skills a student already possesses. Relationships and connections are often forged, and these can influence a person’s career path for many years to come.

Of particular interest to me was Mr. Grant’s internship in the City of Kenosha Elections Department. I was fortunate enough to undertake a similar internship with local government, and it led to a lifetime of public service. Some positions were undertaken on a volunteer basis, such as serving as a state president of the League of Women Voters as well as a state ethics commissioner. Others …
