ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) — The man shot in the vicinity of St. Martinville High School Friday night just before the school’s homecoming football game has been identified.
Deion’Dre Benjamin, 24, of St. Martinville, was killed in the shooting, according to family members.
St. Martinville police announced in a social media post that Zackyric Gardner, 22, of St. Martinville, was arrested in Texas and charged with second-degree murder. St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin said two people were in the vehicle when suspect was arrested, and that the suspect was the passenger.
Martin said the investigation of the shooting is ongoing, and more arrests are anticipated in the case.
