“What are the duties of the Morris County Commissioners?” doesn’t sound like the kind of question that invites an attack line.
But when moderator Ann Armstrong posed that query to the six candidates present at the Morris County Commissioners Debate on Tuesday night, Democrat Jonathan Sackett pounced.
“They issue bonds for large scale projects, they appoint officials to lead county departments, they oversee county operations,” Sackett, who currently serves on the Rockaway Township Council, said. “And they are absent in our community.”
Sackett’s zinger set the civil-but-competitive tone for the rest of the forum, which was held at the County College of Morris in Randolph and streamed live on YouTube, where it can now be watched in its entirety.
