Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has told reporters in Canberra today he looks forward to working with President-elect Trump.
“I look forward to demonstrating my ability to work with world leaders and to develop relationships with them, that are positive,” he said.
“I have demonstrated that in the two-and-half-years of being prime minister.”
When asked about Kevin Rudd remaining as US ambassador, Albanese commented that he continued to do a great job in the role.
“Kevin Rudd is doing a terrific job as Australia’s ambassador to the United States,” he said.
“That says a lot about how we regard the relationship with the United States, that we appointed a former prime minister.”
Albanese was also asked how he would convince Trump to spare Australia from major import tariffs.
“We’ve had considerable briefings, whether it be across security, economic and other issues, but Australia is a supporter of trade,” he said.
