Our movie pick of the week is ‘Umjolo: The Gone Girl‘, the first installment in Netflix’s new four-part anthology, Umjolo, which dives into the raw truths of umjolo (relationships and dating).
Mam Sbosh (Sipho Alphi Mkhwanazi) leads the story as the narrator for this local rom-com, unfolding the chapter of women who face betrayal and heartbreak from unfaithful partners. In ‘Umjolo: The Gone Girl‘, we meet Lethu (played by Sibongiseni Shezi), a well groomed and cultured hopeless romantic, convinced she’s found her perfect match in her fiancé, Lucky (played by Tyson Mathonsi). But Lethu’s fairytale engagement takes a dark turn when a doctor’s visit reveals she has got infected with Chlamydia from her perfect partner.
Lucky is a hardcore player who’s all about playing dirty when it comes to women. And that’s exactly what Lethu discovers when she confronts her cheating partner, who has been with more than 17 other girls.
