NORTH SIOUX CITY — City officials have approved contracts for several projects involving recovery from the late June flooding in McCook Lake.
A North Sioux City contractor, Lieber Construction, has been awarded contracts for the demolition of 20 homes on Northshore Drive and Penrose Drive, as well as installation of a temporary asphalt road on Northshore Drive.
“The priority focus right now is to get the asphalt road in prior to winter,” city staff reported in an email to The Sioux City Journal.
The bid for the demolition work is $1,288,729.88. City officials said reimbursement from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is not guaranteed, however, the city is taking all the steps necessary to meet FEMA requirements for reimbursement. The demolition of the residential properties will likely start sometime after Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28.
Homeowners will be able to rebuild on those sites if they choose.
