It’s been 50 years since Americans learned to spell “bologna” from Oscar Mayer’s Bologna Song jingle — and the brand feels it’s time for a refresher.

On Thanksgiving, Oscar Mayer celebrated the song’s 50-year anniversary, airing the jingle’s original 1974 advertisement during the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Today, Oscar Mayer released a refreshed version of the spot with the jingle’s original lyrics, created with The Kitchen and Johannes Leonardo creative agencies.

“Jingles from the past typically stay in the past and become a part of history,” Shelby Max, Oscar Mayer’s brand manager, told Campaign US, explaining how Bologna Song is an exception that’s “become a lasting symbol of Americana.”
