Days before Thanksgiving, J. Robert Spencer was looking forward to Saturday’s Midtown Men concert at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
For the Lincoln engagement is the last of the nine “Holiday Hits” shows that the original cast quartet of the musical “Jersey Boys” will perform this year.
“This is our favorite time of year,” Spencer said. “When we got together on Broadway, when we were cast to play Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. That’s the greatest music of that ’60s era. But the thing that’s so wonderful about that ’60s era is these classic Christmas songs, whether Bing Crosby or Johnny Mathis or Andy Williams. We’re bringing not just our favorite ’60s songs we usually perform, but our favorite ’60s classic holiday songs. Audiences love it.”
Those holiday songs, Spencer said, are arranged to take full advantage of the quartet’s street-corner harmonies. But the songs aren’t radically redone …
