Indiana lawmakers will debate trans college athletes and kids on social media [Video]

INDIANAPOLIS — On Wednesday, Indiana lawmakers head back to the statehouse for a new legislative session.

This year, legislators will decide how Indiana spends its money over the next two years by writing and voting on a new budget. But the budget is just one priority. Later this week, lawmakers will discuss what else they want to tackle.  

Lawmakers have already filed hundreds of bills that deal with everything from social media use for minors to testing of police for alcohol and drugs. 

House Bill 1047 would require police officers to be tested for drugs and alcohol right after an officer uses deadly force. Right now, IMPD gives a portable breath test only if an officer is suspected of operating while intoxicated.  

Another bill proposed by a lawmaker in the House involves a topic that became a political lightning rod during the 2024 election. …
