The new Panoramic iDrive system, powered by the BMW Operating System X, constitutes a bold new move for BMW. Any car using the system will no longer feature a traditional dash cluster.
Instead, much of the information that would have been present on the dash cluster will now be visible as an AR projection on the windscreen. A render video of the new system (below) shows how it updates distance and upcoming turns in real-time.
“With a stronger focus on driver orientation than ever before, the BMW Panoramic iDrive is the next logical enhancement of previous iDrive generations,” BMW Group explained in a press statement announcing the Panoramic iDrive.
