Koruna is the only female honey farmer in Bangladesh and collects honey with her team in Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world. Koruna received training in environmentally-friendly businesses and marketing from Oxfam partner organisation, Community Development Centre (CODEC).
The Blue Economy and Inclusive Development for Climate Justice (BID4CJ) project in Bangladesh is supporting coastal communities like Koruna’s, as they are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, with an increase in extreme weather and sea level rise.
Oxfam, together with local partners CODEC and Breaking the Silence are supporting communities to restore key coastal and marine ecosystems that provide jobs and protection from climatic vulnerabilities, as well as green businesses, like Koruna’s honey farm, that directly contribute to community livelihoods, without increasing vulnerability to climate change or pollution.
Oxfam acknowledges the support of the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
