City View Apartments conditions prompt Omaha to investigate [Video]

A downtown Omaha apartment complex is in peril of being vacated by the city because of unresolved violations of fire safety and living conditions standards.

An estimated 200 people could be displaced from the City View Apartments, 604 S. 22nd St., if the City of Omaha shuts the building down. That’s a situation city officials want to avoid. But the 12-story building’s fire alarm system is faulty and hasn’t been fixed months after the Omaha Fire Department ordered the owners to repair it, according to city records.

The owners, Tzadik Management of Miami, are racing to have the fire alarms fixed by a city inspection scheduled for Jan. 22, several months after city fire and planning officials had agreed to hold off a previous order to vacate the building.
