Kansas City presented with new plan to take over animal control [Video]

There’s a new proposal for Kansas City government to take over animal control once again.The city currently has a roughly $2.5 million contract with KC Pet Project for that purpose.But that organization has come under fire for a lack of enforcement, responsiveness and communication.With the city’s contract with KC Pet Project expiring April 30, Neighborhood Services Director Forest Decker presented a plan to the city council Thursday for the city to run animal control.“We’re always looking for the best way to do everything,” he said.The proposal calls for up to $8 million to be spent on the transition during 2025.That money would go toward things like hiring new animal control officers, training them and providing them with new equipment.Decker told council members the plan would require at least 10 animal control officers working with two supervisors 10hours a day, four days a week with officers on call for around-the-clock coverage.KC …
