Ad of the Day: Ethnicity pay gap highlighted in Bias Starts With a Name [Video]

Campaign by Worth Your While for media and marketing workplace diversity organization People Like Us plays on a stark reality faced by many workers from Black, Asian, mixed race and minority ethnic backgrounds.

A new spot for People Like Us highlights that candidates with ethnic minority names must submit 60% more job applications to secure a callback, compared with white British applicants.

A two-minute film directed by Naghmeh Pour and featuring British Bangladeshi lyricist Yasmin Ali sees her opine a poetic piece that describes the fate of many ethnic minority job seekers.

The film is shot in black and white and contrasts the job seekers’ experience with those of white applicants while asking, “What’s in a name?” – a question originally penned in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet but subverted here with a different emphasis.
