“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the immediate closure of Beaunuts. Our family is facing some significant health challenges that we must prioritize,” the restaurant posted to social media.
Chef Ernie LaBrecque and his wife KB opened Beanuts at 404 N. Sycamore St. in January 2021 in Historic Old Towne Petersburg.
Beaunuts started as a Southern biscuit-style donut pop-up in Richmond during the pandemic. When LaBrecque, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, was furloughed from his job as chef de cuisine at Upper Shirley Vineyards, he started doing donut pop-ups at The Roosevelt to make some money.
