Charlotte airport proposes plan to triple flight paths around city [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Charlotte City Council is considering a proposal from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, which wants to increase its flight paths.

After a two-year study, the Charlotte airport is proposing to triple flight paths. The Charlotte City Council is set to vote on the proposal on Dec. 9.

If approved by council, the proposal would move on to the FAA for review. The FAA has 180 days to review, and then it is projected to take two years to implement such a change.

Environmental analysis and public engagement sessions are required before an increase in flight paths could be implemented.

The airport’s proposal, dubbed the Part 150 plan, would increase the number of flight paths from the current eight to up to 27. Airport CEO Haley Gentry said the last time major flight paths were added was in 1979.
