GRAHAM, Texas (KAUZ) – Declining sales tax returns and inflation rates are forcing the City of Graham to rethink budgets and projects in this new year.
This money goes into the city’s general funding account, money that goes toward the needs of first responders as well as street repairs.
Graham city manager Eric Garretty explained why the city is not meeting the estimates they expect to be this fiscal year.
“So, that’s going to give an opportunity to go back and assess when we look at what we’re getting in we might have to modify our forecast, and what we’re getting in for sales tax revenue,” he said.
Following a tendency of declining sales tax returns, Graham officials are beginning to reconsider the budget.
The city charges a tax of 1.5%, with a portion going toward economic development.
