BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – A special donation was made to the Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Department.
Buckhannon VFD is training with Battalion 1 Consultants to form a peer support group. As part of the fire department’s mental wellness program, firefighters are taking part in leadership training.
Fire Chief J.B. Kimble says developing leaders is laying the groundwork for a healthy and long-lasting organization.
“We had discussed having a succession plan where a lot of our middle management lieutenants and up-and-coming firefighters, both volunteer and paid, that this class would be accessible to them, and the cost of that was not in the budget this year, but we really saw the importance of it,” said Kimble.
The peer support group is an internal network that gives first responders someone to turn to in a time of need.
