Green Day has spent much of the past year or so celebrating the 30th anniversary of Dookie, the band’s breakthrough 1994 album.
And while there was already a proper 30th anniversary reissue back in Sept. 2023 complete with all the bells and whistles and bonus material you’d expect, the Rock Hall band had another trick up its sleeve.
Announced this week, Dookie: Demastered is a highly amusing collaboration between the band and BRAIN, presenting the 15 songs that comprise Dookie across 15 very “obscure, obsolete, and otherwise inconvenient limited-edition formats,” as the official details explain.
And those details are accurate — because for this project, each song is available on only one medium, a list including floppy disks, a telephone answering machine, a Teddy Ruxpin doll, a HitClip player (how’s THAT for a nostalgia hit, elder Millennials?), an electric toothbrush, a Big Mouth Billy Bass, a Game Boy, an 8-track and much more.
