ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – Escambia County has completed its Jones Swamp Floodplain Restoration Project.
The project restores more than 10 acres of historic wetlands and wildlife habitat and called for the planting of more than 16,000 trees and plants.
We’re told the project included excavating around 31 acres of dirt and fill material to restore the area back to its natural wetlands state.
The project was funded through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund.
The final budget was a little more than $1 million.
