Speculation on Tubby’s identity spread across the board on social media after reports surfaced that a celebrity was in the mascot costume.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the second time in a week, a mascot stole the show at a college football game.
While Minnesota seemingly had Friday night’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl in hand from the second quarter on, reports began circulating that the game’s amiable mascot, “Tubby,” was being portrayed by a celebrity.
“There is an actual celebrity (!) dressed and performing as Tubby, the delightful @DukesMayoBowl mascot, a source close to the bowl game tells @NBCSports,” NBC Sports college football insider Nicole Auerbach posted on X during the game.
