Florida school district reveals incredible effect of banning students from using cellphones on campus [Video]

A Florida school district banned students from using their phones during school hours, leading to less violence and more engagement. 

Back in the fall, Broward County Public Schools instituted a near total ban on student cell phones. The ban extends to the lunchrooms with the exception of emergencies, according to NBC Miami. 

The tactic has paid off – despite initial safety concerns. 

Fights amongst students are down 17 percent since the fall, according to school board member Dr. Allen Zeman, who credits the downward trend to youngsters not having phones on hand to arrange the altercations. 

‘The lack of cellphones leads to fewer fights, to fights with fewer people that last fewer minutes and it also reduces cyberbullying, which is something that causes fights,’ he told NBC Miami.
