CASTINE –– A fisherman turned social media celebrity known as the Downeast cowboy is putting Maine in the spotlight using TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. He visits spots all over the state that some people simply drive through and never take a moment to enjoy. We caught up with him in Castine.

“We’re in Castine, Maine today. This is pretty incredible, tons of history so let’s get at it,” said Hinkle while filming on his phone.

Kelly Hinkle is a lobster fisherman by trade. He went to college at Maine Maritime Academy where he acquired the nickname the Downeast Cowboy.

“There was a gentleman from away who called me a redneck from Maine and I said I was from Downeast and the Downeast Cowboy was born,” he explained.

When Hinkle is not on the boat with his father, he’s making content for his social media followers.

“I go all over the state …
