Former Marine’s CSAM distribution leads to 12-year federal sentence [Video]

While on active duty at Cherry Point, Paul Reyes’s Instagram account was reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by the platform.

CHERRY POINT, N.C. — A former Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material (CSAM), said the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina on Friday.

Paul Anthony Reyes, 23, will also face five years of supervised release and must pay $273,000 in restitution to 29 victims. The case came to light when Instagram flagged illicit content uploaded to its platform, alerting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) traced the IP address back to Reyes, who was an active-duty Marine at the time.
