In this video we compare two Gibson acoustic guitar legends: the Gibson Hummingbird and the Gibson SJ-200. Both are loved for their iconic sounds and their unique looks but each brings something different to the table and each has a very distinct sound and different construction.
The Gibson Hummingbird is a square-shouldered dreadnought with mahogany back and sides. It’s a beautifully balanced acoustic guitar with a bit of extra bass and volume than the smaller bodied acoustics, which makes it ideal for singer-songwriters or bands that may only have one guitar. Perfect for singer-songwriters who love its deep range and classic looks. This particular version here, comes with VTC LR Baggs system so it’s great for fingerstyle or solo playing.
The Gibson SJ-200 is what’s known as a Super Jumbo acoustic guitar, or otherwise known as a “big box” acoustic which provides even bigger sound and projection, and is relied upon by solo singer songwriters. With its maple back, sides and neck it has a bright, resonant tone that cuts through in a band setting but still gives you the bass response you need to fill in the sonic gaps where you may be lacking a bass guitar.
The SJ-200 has the LR Baggs Anthem system with under-saddle pickup and condenser microphone for added presence and depth which makes it the perfect performers guitar as you can plug in onstage. This is the go-to for anyone who wants a bigger, fuller sound.
