How metro Atlanta schools prepare for winter weather, possible closures [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – With winter weather expected to hit Metro Atlanta at the end of the week, a lot of students are hoping for a good, old-fashioned snow day, but the adults running metro area schools have a big decision to make.

Cobb County School’s leaders discussed this topic in a recent podcast. Chief Strategy Officer John Floresta said they start planning as soon as they’re notified about any type of severe weather.

“It’s always safety. When it comes to winter weather, particularly, can we get students to and from school safely in the morning and the afternoon? If the answer is no, or we don’t know, then we’re not going to have school,” Floresta said.

Chief Operations Officer of Marietta City Schools Michael Santoro says they consider the same factors. It all boils down to safety.
