WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Nearly 2,000 pages of documents related to former President Donald Trump’s federal election subversion case are now public.
The development comes just over two weeks away from the 2024 presidential election.
Despite objections by Trump’s lawyers, a federal judge ordered the release of evidence – most it redacted. The documents are related to the government’s contention that Trump illegally sought to overturn the 2020 election.
Most of the 1,889 pages of evidence have redactions – but what could be seen by the public includes Trump’s posts to social media and grand jury transcripts.
Special Counsel Jack Smith alleges that Trump’s conduct aimed at overturning the last election falls outside the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that presidents have some immunity from prosecution over their official actions.
Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a request from Trump’s lawyers to delay releasing these latest documents until after the November election.
