KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – The city of Kansas City, Kansas recorded a record low number of homicides in 2024.
There were 22 homicides in Kansas City, Kansas in 2024. This is a 23% decrease in violent crime from 2023.

“The men and women of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department and our community partners have worked together to reduce crime and improve community engagement,” said Karl A. Oakman, Chief of Police. “These efforts have continued to reduce crime to historical lows, to include tying the all-time low for homicides.”
This historic figure has only been documented twice previously in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1986 and 2012.
