A mechanical engineer by trade, Garden Spot High School graduate Josh Stuckey is a former designer of vehicle engines and child car seats who is now 17 years into a quest for the perfect home ice cream maker.
After making dozens of prototypes, winning a startup contest and then launching a successful crowdfunding campaign, the former Leola resident’s pursuit has landed him in Egypt where he oversees production of his Tern Craft Ice Cream Maker.
To get to where he is, Stuckey has had to successfully navigate a variety of creative and production challenges, turning his dream into a shipping container’s worth of actual ice cream makers that arrived last November at a warehouse near Lancaster.
But as a second shipment makes its way here, Stuckey finds himself grappling with the most daunting challenge in his mission to make the ultimate home ice cream maker: convincing customers that he succeeded.
