UTICA, NY (WKTV) – Veteran Matthew Spellicy and his wife, Monica Spellicy, host a podcast called The Matt and Monica Podcast, interviewing people with powerful stories of overcoming adversity.
We spoke with the couple ahead of Veteran’s Day.
Over the course of the weekend, there have been ceremonies here at home and across the nation to thank veterans for their service to our nation and to honor veterans. After those ceremonies, veterans return home to their daily lives, which at times, can be a challenge.
The podcasts touch on some of these challenges.
In the podcasts, the couple interviews veterans and non-veteran civilians because they say mental health issues and adversity aren’t unique to veterans alone.
Their most recent interview with Bernard Toney, Jr., a 22-year combat vet, and medical officer for president Trump and Biden from 2018-2022 at the White House, touches on overcoming adversity from teen years and into adult life. They recorded the powerful interview in his living room. …
