Green Oil is under fire for creating a video suggesting that six-time Olympic track cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy developed cancer due to exposure to Muc-Off’s products.

The company posted a two-minute video on YouTube, first reported by Road.CC, titled “Did Sir Chris Hoy Get Cancer from PTFE Bike Lubricant Exposure?” The brand stated, “We are living in a cancer epidemic, but there is little anger at the companies producing carcinogens—the chemicals that cause cancer.”

PTFE and cancer

“The link between PTFE production and cancer is clear—a fact spelled out by the film Dark Waters, starring Mark Ruffalo. Green Oil is part of the fight back,” the caption reads. “Team Sky was sponsored by Muc-Off. Muc-Off made lubricants for bikes containing Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE production releases carcinogens. Is there a connection here?”

PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer known for its nonstick, heat-resistant, and chemically inert properties, commonly used in cookware coatings and industrial applications.
