Man shot dead by police in carpark of hospital at Taree, on NSW mid-north coast [Video]

A man has been shot dead by police and a critical incident has been declared on the NSW mid-north coast.

Police responded to multiple reports of a man firing shots into the air at a home on Rouse St in Wingham about 12.25pm on Thursday.

A search of the area could not find the man, believed to be aged in his 30s.

However, he was later found several kilometres away at a carpark of the Manning Base Hospital in Taree about 30 minutes later.

“During the engagement, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at the attending officers, and he was shot by police,” police said.
