Mattel’s packaging for its Wicked movie doll certainly lives up to the name—just not in the most enchanting way.
In a spellbinding blunder, the toy giant is now apologising for accidentally printing a URL for a pornographic site on the boxes of their brand-new Wicked dolls.
Instead of directing fans to the official website of the Tony Award-winning musical’s movie adaptation, little witches and wizards were sent on an unexpected—and decidedly adult—journey.
Social media was quick to point out that the erroneous web address led to a site enforcing an 18+ age restriction. It seems Mattel intended to charm audiences with a similarly phrased URL promoting the two-part film starring pop sensation Ariana Grande and powerhouse actress Cynthia Erivo, but instead conjured up something entirely different.
The Wickeddoll is still meant for the kiddos—recommended for ages four and up. Just maybe keep those boxes under a protective spell until Mattel – maker of Barbie …
