Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has revealed the substantial role sim racing has played in his driving career during the Heineken Player 0.0 Global Finals.
Verstappen has cemented his status as a formidable force in motorsport, capturing his fourth Formula 1 championship in 2024. Despite his impressive achievements on traditional racetracks, he remains actively involved in sim racing.
His engagement with sim racing dates back to his youth. The Dutch driver explained during an interview with Sports Illustrated:
“To be honest, I was already gaming as a kid. It started on a controller when I was four or five years old. Racing on F1 games, rally games, MotoGP games, I did all of it, and I would say around 2008, more or less, simulators really started to be more and more popular, so that’s when I had one as well.”
As simulation technology evolved around 2008, he transitioned to more sophisticated sim racing setups.
