About the artwork co-creation process
Over three weeks in July 2024, the room was covered in calico, and students left painted tracks behind as they navigated the space.
For d/Deaf and Disabled students, it was a space of “freedom”. For the wider student community, it was a challenge to try and follow a map that did not reflect the room. Finally, performer Caitlin Dear explored time and brought the two stages together. Each stage of Metropolis is a playful contemplation of urban spaces – both in the present and future.
Metropolis will be installed on City Campus near Standing Room Cafe.
We Belong is a collaboration between RMIT Creative Student Life and RUSU. It’s Championed by 2024 RUSU Disability and Carers officer Samuel Coombs.
2023 RUSU Champions were Timothy Winning and Mark Morante.
