New Christmas blockbuster Red One streaming release announced for Amazon Prime | Films | Entertainment [Video]

Unsurprisingly, Amazon MGM Studios took a punt on Red One in cinemas as the biggest family Christmas blockbuster in years.

Sadly, though, the critically panned festive adventure bombed at the box office, grossing just $164 million to date on a budget of at least $200 million.

Dwayne Johnson stars as Callum Drift, head of North Pole security, whose job is to project Red One, aka JK Simmons’s Santa Claus.

But when Saint Nick is kidnapped, the E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable) bodyguard has to team up with Chris Evans’ hacker and bounty hunter, Jack O’Malley.

Co-starring Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka and Bonnie Hunt, the new Christmas movie is now headed to streaming.

The 2 hour 12A movie also features other mythical creatures like the Headless horseman and Krampus.

Red One is in cinemas now and heads to Amazon Prime Video on Thursday December 12, 2024.
