KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A new Tennessee law will require children and teens to get a parent’s permission before accessing social media.
Tennessee lawmakers signed off on the new law during the last legislative session. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agreed something needed to be done to protect children.
“This is one of those bills and now laws that just makes sense. It’s a bipartisan vote,” Rep. Sam McKenzie (D- Knoxville) said.
A Republican in the Tennessee General Assembly also said it gives parents more power over what their children see.
“What it does is try to give parents some control over what their children are watching, how long they’re spending on social media and when they can watch it,” Sen. Richard Briggs (R-Knoxville) said.
