New Marijuana testing lab will check Missouris products for compliance [Video]

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) – Two years after Missouri Voters approved the recreational use of marijuana through a constitutional amendment, the state’s regulatory division is poised to establish a “reference lab” in Jefferson City.

“These analytical testing units are building capacity by performing outreach activities, implementing security measures for storing cannabis samples, hiring scientists, creating partnerships with external partners, completing testing instrumentation installation and training, and attending industry conferences,” the division’s recent 2023 report on the industry.

The state allocated a combined $6.2 million to the project in the budgets for FY 2024 and 2025.

So far, some equipment has already been installed in the MSPHL and new scientists are already being trained on the testing protocol and procedure.

“State reference laboratory testing will include identifying and quantifying the levels of cannabinoids present in cannabis products, and moisture content, as well as screening for contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals, mold, and other pathogens,” the …
