Going into the next budget with a $4 billion surplus, incoming Senate President Mary Felzkowski says Republicans will be looking at tax cuts and funding one-time expenses like infrastructure projects.
“If the majority of this is one-time money, we’re going to spend it on one-time projects,” Felzkowski, R-Tomahawk, told a WisPolitics virtual luncheon yesterday. “So one-time money should be spent on infrastructure instead of borrowing. We’ll spend it on our roads. We’ll spend it on, you know, maintaining our buildings instead of borrowing. One-time money on one-time projects, exactly like we did last time.”
She said Republicans intend to approach the budget in a manner that doesn’t dig a hole for future budgets.
“We’ll do a conservative budget where we spend within our means. We’re not going to do Minnesota, where we take a surplus, spend it, and then, you know, raise taxes by an additional $3 billion,” she said. …
