Playgrounds installed at Alabama womens prisons to improve family visitation [Video]

WETUMPKA, Ala. (WSFA) – Playgrounds have been installed at two women’s prisons in Alabama to make family visitation better, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

After three years of planning, Julia Tutwiler Women’s Facility and Montgomery Women’s Facility now each have brand new recreational equipment for children who come to visit incarcerated loved ones.

“The playgrounds are a huge advancement for the facilities,” said Jessica Hoagland, representative for Hercules, the company that built the playgrounds. “They will provide a bonding experience and safe area for the children during visitation.”

ADOC hopes the project inspires other correctional facilities around the nation to do the same.

“The addition of this equipment will definitely enhance the visitation experience for the inmates and their children,” Commissioner John Q. Hamm said. “Keeping family bonds strong during incarceration is important for future family success.”
