ATLANTA — It’s a scam that’s been circulating social media for months, and now the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wants to put consumers on notice: watch out for QR codes on an unexpected package

According to the FTC, the scam scenario also starts when an unexpected package arrives, addressed to the resident but with no return address.

“You open it and find a note that says it’s a gift, but it doesn’t say who sent it,” FTC experts shared. “The note also says to scan a QR code to find out who sent it — or to get instructions on how to return it.
