Russian-Crewed Ship Suspected of Sabotaging Baltic Cables Detained [Video]

The Russian-crewed, Norwegian-owned ship Silver Dania is being searched in relation to damage to a fiber cable in the Baltic Sea.

It is suspected that someone on board the ship may have had something to do with the damage to the cable, which connects Latvia and the Swedish island of Gotland, which was discovered on Sunday, according to Troms Police District in Norway.

Tormod Bo Fossmark, who heads Silver Dania’s parent company Silver Sea, has told several Norwegian media outlets the firm was surprised by the news.

“We and hundreds of other boats drive past all the time,” he said. “We were driving at full speed and didn’t have the anchor out.”

“We haven’t done anything wrong,” he added. “We haven’t damaged the cable.”
