TikTok will be banned on Jan. 19th, unless its parent group, ByteDance, sells the app’s US assets.
LANCASTER, Pa. — The clock is ticking for TikTok, with the US preparing to ban the app on Sunday, Jan. 19, if the app refuses to part ways with its parent company, ByteDance.
Lawmakers and intelligence officials have expressed concerns that ByteDance might be sharing its users’ data with the Chinese government, potentially posing a national security risk.
“It’s sad because it’s an app that we’ve used and I’ve enjoyed on a personal basis,” said Angelo Disomma, the owner of Rosa Rosa Pizzeria.
Rosa Rosa Pizzeria has been using TikTok to help promote its restaurant since 2022. Its page has gained more than 12,000 followers, resulting in greater interest in the restaurant outside of Lancaster.
“At least a couple times a week, somebody is coming in and saying, ‘we saw you on TikTok, …
