Spencer Pratt is opening up about his decision to be “vulnerable” online in the wake of losing his home he shared with Heidi Montag in the Los Angeles wildfires.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, The Hills alum, 41, explains he wouldn’t be posting on social media if the couple didn’t depend on the income.
“If we were rich, I wouldn’t be on an app,” says Pratt. “I’d be buying a new house and starting to order things. So, I don’t think we would’ve shared anything vulnerable.”

He continues: “[Social media] is how we already made money before. That’s our way of life. Heidi and I have been Snapchatting every day probably for eight years, our whole life.”
Pratt explains the couple are “programmed” to continue creating content “because that’s how we pay for bills.”
