The plan comes as a response to multiple ongoing investigations into sexual abuse allegations against a current and former teacher.
ST. HELENS, Ore. — After months of gathering input from students, parents and the community, district leaders in St. Helens have released preliminary guidelines they hope will change the culture of the district.
The preliminary “Corrective Action Plan” includes continued listening sessions, advisory councils, ongoing engagement with law enforcement and the return of the school resource officer program.
This comes as a result of multiple sex abuse allegations that started in late 2024. Former teacher Mark Collins and current educator Eric Stearns were arrested on several charges of sex abuse in November. Former St. Helens High School principal Katy Wagner also faces charges for criminal mistreatment and official misconduct. A total of 10 staff members are on leave due to allegations of either sexual misconduct or failure to report sexual misconduct.
