AAA said 8.5 million Texans are expected to drive 50 miles or more this holiday season.
HOUSTON — During one of the busiest times of the year on roadways nationwide, Texas and Houston officials are urging drivers to be safe.
“With more people on the roadway, the risk for a crash increases, and so that’s something to keep in mind,” Armbruster said.
Armbruster also said the top contributors for crashes in Texas are impairment, distractions and speeding.
“25% of the fatalities on Texas roadways are caused by drunk drivers, so it’s important if you’re going to celebrate the holidays with alcohol, that you have a plan,” Armbruster said.
“HPD has teamed up with TxDOT Houston this holiday season to keep the roadways safe. We’ll have more marked and unmarked vehicles on the roads looking for impaired drivers,” Officer Jared Sturm said in the video.
