Truck driver crashes into semi while reaching for water bottle, troopers say [Video]

EL RENO, Okla. (Gray News) – A semitruck driver reached for a water bottle when he crashed into another semitruck on Interstate 40 Monday afternoon, according to officials with Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A trooper’s dash camera video posted on social media shows the semi driving in El Reno near Country Club Road when it veers onto the shoulder, hitting another truck.

“This crash could have been deadly but amazingly, there were no injuries,” the agency said on Facebook.

You can see debris fly and scatter in the air from the crash, causing a minivan to swerve onto the median to get out of the way.

Authorities said the driver admitted to reaching down to grab a water bottle when the crash happened.

“This is a very graphic reminder to give your full attention to the road while driving,” the post states.
