Tony Hinchcliffe, who faced backlash from political rivals after he made a joke at a Donald Trump rally branding Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” is a stand-up comic and podcast host.
The comedian appeared at the rally for the Republican presidential candidate on Sunday October 27, speaking at Madison Square Garden in New York. Several of his jokes centered around immigration and Latino voters, prompting mixed reactions from the audience.
Hinchcliffe’s most controversial line came when he said: “There is literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico?”
His comments were immediately slammed by the Harris campaign, with vice presidential nominee Tim Walz describing the comedian as a “jackwad” during a stream event with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
