Wisconsin DOJ releases 2023 report on State Crime Lab [Video]

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) – Attorney General Josh Kaul has released the 2023 Annual Report for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Forensic Sciences (DFS) crime laboratories.

Attorney General Josh Kaul said, “The work of our state crime labs is essential to protecting public safety and ensuring criminal investigations and prosecutions lead to justice.”

AG Kaul adds the upcoming state budget must invest in the crime labs to adequately staff them.

2023 annual report based on DOJ findings:

• Progress was made in enhancing the infrastructure and technology for the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories. The first phase of a new Laboratory Information Management System is expected to be fully implemented in 2025. It will significantly improve the way cases are tracked and improve processes. The groundbreaking for the new Southeast Regional Crime Laboratory happened in 2023. It is scheduled to open in 2026.
